Travel

This program is for the "skilled" soccer player interested in playing at a higher level of competition than can be offered playing in our recreational programs. Participation is in the CDYSL Fall and Spring Seasons. Players play on girls, boys or coed teams depending on the season and turnout.  Competitve tryouts may be held to place players on specific teams or in specific divisions.

Games will be played at our home fields in either Coxsackie or Greenville or at our opponents home field.  A player must commit themselves to the practice sessions and games, as the team is dependent on their participation. Parents must commit to the transportation of their player.  The season is demanding of the player and parent, but the rewards of playing against other teams from the Capital District with the same abilities far outweigh the commitment.

How is Travel Soccer different from Recreational Soccer?

  • Travel Soccer is competitive, winning games is important - in Recreational Soccer, winning is not a priority.
  • Travel Coaches will require a greater level of practice time and practice sessions from travel league players- Travel coaches will also stress and encourage their players to work on physical conditioning, endurance and soccer skills apart from the practice and game times.
  • Travel Coaches have the discretion to establish team rules for the travel teams. These rules might include attendance at games and practices, participation in the indoor soccer league, participation in soccer tournaments and other types of team policies. Travel Soccer will require that choices be made by players and parents. The Travel Coach will have the discretion to insist that players on her/his team commit to a practice schedule, tournament schedule, attendance policies, etc.
  • Travel Players are not assured of playing in every game; recreational league players are assured of playing in every game. Travel league players earn their playing positions by showing initiative and good soccer skills in their positions. Travel league coaches will play their best players in most cases; players with lesser skills and players who show less initiative will have less or possibly no "play" time in games.
  • Travel players should expect that games and tournaments will require that the player's parent(s) or guardian(s) provide transportation to various locations within the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL). The CDYSL currently encompasses ( North to South) Saugerties to the Lake George region and (East to West) New Lebanon to Cobleskill. Recreational league games are played at the Coxsackie Schools Campus.
  • Travel league games take place on different days of the week depending upon the age level of the player. Travel league games are scheduled by CDYSL; Henry Hudson Youth Soccer Club has no control over the game days that are chosen. Recreational league games are scheduled for Wednesday and Saturdays generally, however makeup games are occasionally scheduled at other times.
